Artist
Statement
Vibrant color fuels my passion as an artist. Through saturated watercolor washes and luminous layers, I translate the energy I see in the world around me onto paper. I strive to capture the sunlit glow of a flower, the intelligence in an animal's eye, and the fleeting hues of the sky. I push the shapes in my subjects toward geometric, experiment with abstraction in my backgrounds and occasionally create surreal combinations of images to communicate my story.
I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Michigan and have taught art in K-12 public schools, in addition to leading adult watercolor classes and workshops. I am an award-winning artist with signature membership in the Michigan Watercolor Society, Most of my work is created in the studio but I also participate in plein air exhibitions.
My approach is influenced by the works of Carol Carter, Carolyn Lord, and Paul Morstad. The aim of my art is to captivate viewers with vivid colors and shapes and then as they step closer have them discover deeper meaning and personal connections.
